TEIDE NATIONAL PARK
Las Cañadas del Teide National Park is the oldest national park in the Canary Islands (1954) and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here you will find the Teide volcano which, at 3718 metres, is the highest peak in Spain. This park is ideal for hikers as it has a variety of routes with different levels of difficulty, including the ascent to the peak; however, it is also possible to ascend by cable car. The altitude, the low light pollution and the cleanliness of the sky in this area, make the park a special place for stargazing. The Observatory and the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands is located here. If you want to enjoy the beauty of the night-time sky of Tenerife, it is easy, as there is a wide range of astronomical excursions available.
WHALE AND DOLPHIN WATCHING
The coasts of Tenerife have one of the richest faunas in the world. Whale watching (whales and dolphins) is one of the essential excursions for those who want to get to know the island better, and it is suitable for the whole family. The southwest coast is the perfect place to enjoy whale watching. Tenerife has many companies dedicated to the organization of excursions to contemplate these animals in freedom. Departures are usually made from the ports of Los Cristianos, Puerto Colón and Los Gigantes, with pick-ups close to our hotels. It is a real experience to see them play, surf among the waves or slap the water. There is always something to see and there are also numerous alternative activities in this area of the island such as sailing or snorkelling in one of the incredible coves that can be found in the cliffs of Los Gigantes.
A DAY AT SIAM PARK
During your holiday in Tenerife, we recommend you save one of your days to visit the most spectacular water park in the world, Siam Park. With its 15 impressive attractions, its incredible decoration inspired by Thai culture, and lush vegetation, it is one of the must-see excursions in Tenerife. If you have decided to spend a day here, remember these names: The Tower of Power, a slide 28 metres high with an almost vertical free fall that ends its journey underneath an aquarium of sharks and rays; The Dragon, an attraction that practically simulates the sensation of zero gravity; and The Kinaree, adrenaline, speed and unforgettable fun. One of the park’s most loved attractions is La Singha, a water roller coaster with 14 changes of direction, incredible speed and more than 200 meters of travel. The little ones also have their reserved space where they can explore exciting corners and have great fun.
RURAL PARK OF ANAGA
Anaga Rural Park is one of the natural jewels of Tenerife. The Anaga massif, a mountainous formation in the northeast of the island, has been declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO and is the place with the greatest number of endemic species in Europe. Every year, a multitude of tourists from all over the continent congregate here to enjoy the especially beautiful features of this area. It’s possible to walk among laurel landscapes, climb mountains where you can contemplate the best views, cross paths formed by lava and enter deep ravines dotted with small hamlets. It is considered a paradise for hiking enthusiasts, housing some of the best routes on the island. If you prefer a day at the beach, this is also possible, as some of the best black sand beaches are in this area.
